6 Advantages to Knowing Your Life Path

Recently, I had a conversation in which I was given a piece of advice that I absolutely hated. I was told to dream bigger.

Dream bigger. What’s that supposed to mean? What’s wrong with my dreams?

The reason this bothered me so much was because it was in the context of, if money were no object, what would you do? My response was not much. At this point in time, I feel as though my life is pretty perfect. I work for myself from home, I have flexibility and options in my days, I am beholden to no one.

And yet… despite my best resolutions I started to think about it.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: The alarm clock goes off in the morning and you find yourself lying in bed, hitting the snooze button far more often than you care to admit.  This has been my scenario more often than not in my adult life and I’m willing to bet I’m not the only one.

So, if my life is so wonderful, why can’t I get myself out of bed in the morning? If this seems familiar, you might be struggling with the same issue I was, and am, which is a lack of purpose. In the spiritual world we call this our life path. If we can’t figure out what the goal is, how are we supposed to drum up enthusiasm, right?

I realized that even though I have a genuinely good, blessed, privileged life compared to many other people in the world, that in itself is not enough for the human soul to feel fulfilled. Therefore, I proceeded to spend a goodly amount of time thinking, pondering, and journaling to try to find a solution. In this latest video series, my aim is to share with you what I’ve learned so far and invite you along on the journey with me if you feel it would be helpful.

Our first objective is understand some of the advantages of knowing our life path.

I distilled this down to six things, but the advantages you find may be completely different, so feel free to comment below if there are other points you find noteworthy.

Watch me ramble incoherently on this theme

1.     Your Life Path Delves into Your Passions

Your Life Path links together those things which matter most to you. As an exercise, imagine taking the thing you love doing more than anything else. Now, make this part of your daily life. Exploring what excites you is a big part of understanding your Life Purpose, and as easy as it sounds I find myself having to constantly circle back around to this when outside expectations distract me.

2.     Your Life Path Creates Goals

Too often, our lives become aimless, with the focus being on how to get through the day. If you want to direct your life and pursue a worthwhile goal, understanding your Life Path will hone your focus and give you a place to begin.

3.     Passion Allows You to Live Your Truth

We all have values that we believe in. When you live with purpose and your Life Path in mind, this means you make daily decisions that are in alignment with those values. Why is this important? Because when you live according to someone else's expectations, you become lost in unhealthy compromises of values.

4.     Your Life Path is Impactful

If you want the things you do in the day to matter, work according to your Life Path. This sense of purpose makes us thoughtful in the choices we make, especially when it comes to spending time and resources. By putting this much consideration into action, you know you're accomplishing more of what's worthwhile.

5.     Your Life Path Leads to Productivity

It’s when you don’t know where to begin or what needs to be done that you lose a lot of time. Procrastination creeps in as a response to overwhelm and lack of direction. When you have a purpose, you have a clearer idea of where you're going and the next steps you'll need to get there. This leads to higher productivity when you sit down to work.

6.     Your Life Path Makes Your Day More Interesting

When you have a purpose in your life and act according to this purpose, you're going to find yourself smiling more and feeling more relaxed. There's great satisfaction when you work toward what matters to you personally. Even the small mundane tasks can seem more fun and interesting when you know how they contribute to the whole.

Alright, everyone! Those were my six advantages of knowing my Life Purpose, gleaned from way too many months of journaling. How do yours compare? Let me know in the comments.

As mentioned, I’m going to be chatting on this theme for a minute, and because of that I’ve created some resources for you, including a free booklet which will go into much more detail than these videos.

There’s also a workbook available if you feel you might benefit from some additional journaling on this theme, and I’m trying to come up with some sort of group activity for us as well. All details will be in the video descriptions and I will go back to update them when appropriate.

Many thanks for joining me today, and until next time, Blessed be!
